Headphones: the essential wearable for your mobile, computer, travel… However, there are several types of headphones that aren’t easy to choose from. Get to know them better to find the ones that suit your needs.
If you are a regular user of this accessory, which has already become another tool, you are probably not satisfied with the headphones that your mobile devices include and you are looking for a qualitative leap.
At Digital Cinema we work with exclusive brands based on quality and technological progress. We are dedicated to design and install home automation and smart home in Mallorca projects and our experience makes us dominate the market in which we operate and be able to provide you with the best advice.
What types of headphones are there?
There are three types of headphones depending on where we place them:
- In-ear or intra-aural: those that are inserted in the ear.
- On-ear or supra-aural: they rest on the ear without completely covering it.
- Over-ear or circumaural: they are also headband headphones but cover the ear completely, isolating it from outside noise.
What are the advantages of the different types of headphones?
The main advantage of in-ear models is that they are small, lightweight, easy to carry, and comfortable for mobile activities such as jogging or going to the gym. In addition, most of them incorporate Bluetooth technology and we don’t need to carry around any annoying cables.
In the case of supra-aural headphones, their strength is that they are more comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Some people end up experiencing discomfort in their ears from using in-ear headphones, and that problem is solved with over-ear headphones. However, they can be uncomfortable to wear, as can excessive sweating when temperatures start to rise.
If we talk about circumaural headphones, the advantages and disadvantages are similar to those of supra-aural headphones, adding that the ear cushions completely cover the ears, isolating them better from outside noise, and they are usually the ones that offer the best sound quality. Their main disadvantage is that their use is usually limited to the workplace or at home, as their size is not practical to wear on the street or for sports.
So what types of headphones are best for me?
Depending on the activity you need them for, you can choose one type or another.
If you want to be able to listen to your music or talk on the phone while walking, playing sports or on short journeys, then an in-ear headset would be ideal for you: small, practical, comfortable.
If you are going to use them on longer journeys, you are not going to do sport with them or you usually carry larger bags and backpacks where you can store them when you are not using them, supra-aural headphones are the ideal type for you. They can also be worn around your neck if you stop using them momentarily.
Finally, if you need to work at home or relax in isolation from outside noise, circumaural headphones are perfect for you.
