When we think about buying a television, the big question is: what size? Choosing the size of the TV depends on several factors such as distance, resolution and viewing angle.
At Digital Cinema we only work with the best brands to guarantee the quality of our installations. Loewe TV is undoubtedly the firm to choose, but how do we know which one is the best for our home?
Choosing the right size of TV: the key issues
Whether it is a cinema, a coworking room or any other space that includes an audiovisual installation, the same question always arises: what size is the right one?
It is important to bear in mind these keys, as the size of the screen is not only a question of aesthetics. Enjoying the quality provided by the television also depends on its dimensions and how it is positioned in the space.
- The further away we are from the screen, the more difficult it is to read the subtitles or appreciate the small details, especially if the screen is small. But if you are too close, you will not be able to see the whole picture.
- It is recommended that the screen occupies at least 30º of the field of vision. In the case of cinemas, 40° is ideal.
There are other calculations such as the one recommended by the SMPT. This indicates that, to calculate the appropriate distance, we have to multiply the inches of the television by 1.6. This result, in inches, is then converted into metres to find out how far away it is best to place the screen.
You should also know that 4K resolution screens offer four times more detail than Full HD screens. For this reason, if you sit very close to a 4K UHD TV, you will see better and sharper than on a Full HD. It’s funny, but if you sit too far away, your eye won’t appreciate the detail of the higher resolution.
We’ll also take into account the way we humans see. Our viewing system is about 135° horizontally. This angle is perfect for a movie, but not so good for a football match, for example.
Of course, there are more variables such as personal preferences, the layout of the furniture or the lighting of the space. For this reason, at Digital Cinema, our team will study the space to design the perfect project for your home or business.
A change of perception
One thing to bear in mind when you buy a larger screen is that, at first, it will seem huge.
This sensation lasts for a few days, until we get used to it, but it is true that when we install it, it will seem oversized.
It is important to bear this in mind because we may think that we made a mistake in choosing the size of the TV, when it is simply a perceptual distortion.
